Installation V7 on Asus P5B failed without any information

I am having the same problem, I just created a new thread for it too.

now I've tried the installation with an IDE Harddrive but nothing. Still the same error message witch does not help anything. 
I also tried with a second PCI Networkcard. Nothing.

Everything I used is listed on the supported hardwarelist but it does not work.
The 965 chipset, the ICH8 Controller and the CPU and the Realtek Network chipsets.
I'm really pissed, damn. Primarily because there is no useful error messages.

On Version 6 often the build would be fine reboot ... nothing !  

The HARD Disk has to be set to LBA mode NOT auto for drive type.
Look at the values in the BIOS under auto then hard set them using LBA / manual config.
  it woked for V6 (the Linux kernel) so try on 7.x

Just a quick thought.

My install hung on install and I traced the problem to the boot sector virus protection option being on. I allso disabled all the hardware in the bios such as the sound card, com and printer ports as there kinda wasted when the box is going to be a firewall [:D]

i've just found some manual on the CD. 
So I found out that the guys at Astaro using the industry standard hot key combination ALT+F3 to display the installation logs. Nice job guys.

So now I know that it boots from my IDE CD-Rom but than lost the CD-Drive while detecting hardware. So it depends on the JMB 363 controller.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I will now try if I got it boot from USB Cd-Rom. But it seems that the mainboard does not support it. Damn

it says:
Searching for CD-Rom drives
 unable to find the installation CD
Total 0 CD-Rom drives found

USB CD-Rom does not work. Damn, that my day. So i guess I need another board or a SATA CD-Drive, right? Or another firewall software [:P]

Dont supose you have a large usb stick ? You could put the cd image on that and boot from it. Just a thought.

I have a large USB Stick. But I think if it dows not boot from USB CD it also would not boot from USB Stick.

I also just found an PCI Promise FastTrack100 Controller card here. But I remember that it only supports harddrives. But I have now wasted a couple of hours with that shit so it doesn't matter anymore [[:D]]

I also found a soundcard with IDE Controller. But damn it is ISA. The board has no ISA anymore [[:D]]

LOL I was going to sugest a harddrive controler card. Its worth a try ! 

Astaro doesnt support ISA anyway. 

Just a thought, If you have a spare small hard drive couldnt you use something like ISObuster to put the iso onto the hard disk. Boot from the small disk as a slave and install from there ?

You can make the drive bootable from the ISO with ISOBuster I think. I did it years ago. Do you by any change have a usb caddy drive, I have connected cdrom drives to those in the past and booted as long as the bios will boot from usb.

I take it your installing to the SATA drives. Was just wondering id turning of the SATA controler in the bios and booting from cd and to hard drive on the IDE would do the trick. Then you could ghost or drive image the ide drive to the SATA drive.

I think I will invest the 20 euros for the SATA CD-Drive and hopefully it works. Or does anyone know that it also does not work with SATA CD Drives? [8-)]

I'm back. I've buyed an DVD Multiburner and after the installation I will use it for something else. I hope the Astaro will later work without the SATA CD Drive. [8-)] 

The SATA Drives was recognized and it passed the hardware check. Now its formatting the drive on step 7 of 7. So it will jopefully finish the installation.

The result is that the JMB 363 Controller from the ICH8 chipset does not work.
I don't think I'm fussy but if the ICH8 is on the supported hardware list in my opinion this have also to be the IDE interface from that chipset. Also I don't think this controller is so uncommon not to support.

Finally I think I have wasted 3 to 4 hours with that s**t! 
My regular plan was to have finished the replacement of our Astaro 6 at this time of the day and now I'm not even finished with the installation.

I have installed classic (all other hang while loading kernel) 
ACPI is disabled in the Bios

After finishing the installation it hangs on system start with following:
