RAID non supported ?!?!?!?

Check the HCL; most SATA RAID devices aren't yet supported; I've run into the same problem there -- the solution right now is to use hardware on that list.

The HCL is located at http://www.astaro.com/lists/HCL-ASG-V7.txt

so Intel 3000 family chipset ar not supported !

for this reason i can use a single-disk configuration and when i try to enable a RAID 1 function i got problem !

Look under the RAID section of the HCL; that's where you need to look for RAID compatibility.  Often simply running an ICH chipset in legacy mode or without a mirror will work, but their RAID modes are note supported (at least in my experience).  Also, the HCL is a guideline ... they can't possibly test ALL hardware configurations out there -- so newer chipsets may or may not work. To guarantee success, we generally go by the HCL.

tnks... redhat support raid 1 configuration for this controller; i hope also astaro will do !

this server ( ml110 ) are very good system .... 350 € for a P4 3.2ghz, 512 Mb and 160 Gb sata drive  !
i've bought 4 server for this project because i need to configure 4 new ASL firewall....

Sounds like you'll have some spare drives (make sure the extra drive is removed before attempting to install the ASG software) ... or you can add one of the certified SATA RAID controllers on the HCL.

FYI for everyone.  If the raid controller is part of the chipset IT IS NOT RAID.  It's fakeraid or fraid.  Please get a 3ware card or something similar as those are true raid. Read this post for more details about FRAID.  Linux for the most part does not(as well it shouldn't) support fraid setups.

I guess, all ICHx-based RAIDs are only software-RAIDs, bit no RAID in the classical meaning of a hardware-RAID-controller (like from ICP-vortex, 3ware or so...). If you don't need too much performance, there is a very cheap solution, that works for my Ubuntu and maybe it will work for Astaro as well. The XFX-company has PCI-based 3-channel HW-RAID-controllers, that will cost about 25 Euro (including a big box, 3 good SATA-cables and velcro-straps for the cables). With Ubuntu no driver was needed, but the performance is only abou 44 MByte/sec. I hope, XFX will release PCIe-controllers with more channels in the near future.
Maybe this will be an alternative for you?
Other REAL RAID-controllers will cost about 250 Euros (e.g. Promise) or more.

FRIAD is worse than software raid as the binary drivers don't always use DMA reliably..stick with either Linux MDM raid(which uses dma transfers natively) or a hardware raid controller.  For RAID 5 hardware raid is the only way to go if you want any kind of performance.
