ASLV7 DHCP Static MAC/IP Kills Connectivity

I have a pretty basic V7 setup installed (v7.009):

Cable modem  ASLV7  Router  PCs

I was tidying things up and added a static MAC/IP for my wireless router.  When the router renews the dhcp it picks up the correct setting (ip, gateway, dns, etc.), but all connectivity beyond the router dies.  I can't ping ASL anymore and the only way to get it back is to connect a computer directly to the ASL box, and remove the static routing.  Has anyone else experienced this?

    I'd recommend that you only use the LAN ports on the router, not the WAN port. 
    Also, give the router a static IP for administrative purposes, on the same network as your INT network on the firewall.
    Then, disable the DHCP server on the router.

    Then, you shouldn't have these issues.
