7.007 - DEC-Adapter Connection Problems

I've installed the ASL 7.007 on an Asus board with following NIC's:
- On Board Marvel (works fine)
- 3Com 905C-TX (works fine)
- 4-port DECchip 21140 [FasterNet] 
- 2-port DECchip 21142/43 

The later two cards are detected by the ALS, they can even be turned active in the "interface"-section with green lights on, but the don't connect (--> Link: Down).
Network - Interfaces - Hardware: Does not show any supported link modes (in opposite to the 3Com- and Marvel-NIC).

The LED's on all 8 connected NICs are lit and even the connected switches don't show any errors. But still i can't get any connection on the DEC-based NICS.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

    I am having a similar problem with a Realtek (RTL-8139) and VIA (Rhino II) network adaptors. The difference with my problem compared to dx0001’s is that the adapters work for a while then drop out. The problem is only on the external interface using the Realtek/VIA adaptors. I can reinitialize the interface and it comes back up without a problem. 

    Conducted some basic tests and it seams that the interface drops out when using IPSEC VPN to access the Webmin interface for Astaro. At first, I thought that the problem was the Realtek adapter and some of the problems that have been reported on other websites. When I switched to the VIA adapter and after while I got the same results. There is no affect on the internal interface that is using a 3COM (905C-TX).
