cpu peaking

I use the astaro software v7.0 on a custom build computer. the cpu peaks out at 98% and stays until i reboot. The processes that are peaking are: 
/usr/sbin/named 25%
\_ /usr/bin/perl 10%
these are the two theat seem to be freezing. i can still surf the net but it is slow

    I opened the packet filtering live log and saw I was getting about 150-200 DNS requests per sec. from the windows server 2003. I had configured the clients to request DNS from the server and the server to request from astaro and the astaro from the server. So when I when from the lab with 3 computers to the real network, with about 40, I created a packet storm and peaked the astaro out. I am impressed with how well both the astaro software and the hardware I chose held up under those conditions.

    Did I Understood you right? You point from the server to the astaro and then from the astaro back to the server? --->Then thats the Point which is wrong. It something like a loop.
    Normal Configuration whould point from one dns to the next in a hierarichal way.

    Please post your machine spec's...  Also what version of Astaro 7 are you using.  If you are using 7.000 then yes you will have issues.

    It is fixed now. i took the local server out of the astaro dns list and restarted it. then the cpu when down to it's normal 0-2%. the specs on the machine are asus m2n-e amd 2x 4200+ 1gb ddr2 single channel and an 80gb hardrive. I am impressed at how it held up. It ran for 2 1/2 days with cpu 100% then I fixed it and with no other problems. i build about 25 computers this year so far with almost all asus motherboards with no major problems. I really think they are good quality.

    You probably want your internal computers pointed at your internal DNS server, which points at Astaro, which points at the ISP DNS servers.

    sorry you're right. 7.007, pIII 1.2ghz 512mb ram, 80gb hdd. just the ips is active anything else is turned of. i know this is not a high end machine but the cpu load jumping from 5% to 100% without any reason i can think of is weird
