Setting up AGS7

Ok I have the software installed.  I hook up my NIC that is setup for external to my cable modem.  It will pull an IP from the modem.  I have the internal NIC hook to my router on a LAN port.  On the Dashboard it shows the status of the External NIC as State Up Link Down.  Is this is what is causing me not to browse.  How can I get the link up and then browse.  Also should the internal NIC be connected to the LAN port or WAN port on the router?

    The Astaro is a router... why are you using another unit behind it?  Not sure why you're not connecting, how are checking to see if the external interface has an IP?  Have you configured your NAT, Packet Filter, and HTTP Proxy settings yet?  By default, everything is blocked until you do these things.

    You are talking about a Cable modem/Router, the way you described is that the same unit?

    External interface should be connected to the modem/router and depends on the configuration if it will give you an IP address.(Public.or Private) Look in the manual of the router.
    You should connect the Internal interface to a switch or so, and connect your pc's printers etc. also.....

    The router is a separate box.  I have it for wireless connections.  So the setup should be the cable to the external on the Astaro then the internal to the switch.  Is there anyway I can use the router I would like it to assign IPs.

    You can plug the router into the Astaro Internal interface, or add another interface for a 'wireless DMZ'.

    Either way, you'll want to only use the LAN ports on the router, meaning you're using it as a wireless bridge, not a router.

    You'll also need to decide where you want to run DHCP services... make sure you don't do it on both the router and Astaro.
