I had the same questions awhile ago and here's the answers I got.
The processor cannot be upgraded. The RAM is limited to 512MB by the chipset, so can't do that either. The HDD can be upgraded. Opening up your 220 will of course completely void your warranty and and support contract that you may have.
Your best bet may be to contact Astaro and beg to do a hardware swap for a refurb better unit. Maybe they'll let you do that and pay the difference in price. I planned on checking into this, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
A couple of weeks ago, there was a thread here on the boards about some changes you can make from the CLI to config files on the Astaro that will improve memory performance (which is the real culprit for the performance loss on a 220 with V7 to my experience). Similar to hardware changes, if your decide to perform these tweaks, Astaro support may kick you to the curb.
