ASG Hostname

Can someone explain to me why in V7 on the System settings-hostname tab it wants a DNS resolvable name? Why would I want my firewall appliance to be "known" on the Internet? Or am I misunderstanding this? BTW this is a ASG 425.

    There are several reasons I can think of off the top of my head. SPF records and an MX listing for anti-spam checks. If in your environment you decide to allow users to access the portal feature from the internet. Kind of tough for those remote users to use the astaro VPN capabilities if they can't get the software and config files from the portal, lol. 
     
    Keep in mind that whatever you put in the hostname box does not automatically make that name available to the world. For that you would also need to create an A record in the forward lookup zone for your domain with your DNS provider (whether you host your own internet accessible DNS or use an external provider).  What you put in this box is basically the name that the astaro box will refer to itself as.  It will show up in certificates that it generates for example.
