Ext Interface: Cable Modem vs Ethernet Std

I am setting up ASG v7 for my home and am new to all this firewall stuff. The install procedure created two interfaces: Internal and External. The External interface will be connected to my cable modem. My question is what should the external interface type be: Cable Modem (DHCP) or Standard Ethernet? It seems standard Ethernet would be nice because I'd assign a static IP. Does it matter which I choose? If so, why?

If you have a static IP, then standard ethernet should be right.

Broadband providers generally expect their customers to use DHCP to obtain an IP address. With residential broadband connections, this is practically always the case. Many corporate broadband connections also use DHCP, the difference being that their IP address won't change over time. This is known as pseudo-static addresses. This allows the addresses to be used in DNS server tables without having to worry about address changes.
