Installation of v7 fails on hard drive partitioning

I have had v6 on my compaq running fine - decided to upgrade to v7 so booted with new v7.

However, the installation goes all the way to the checksum part then fails when it goes to partition the hard drive???!!

Do I have to wipe the hard drive first or what??

The specs of the machine are as follows :

Pentium III 733
320 MB Ram
Fujitsu 10GB Hard Drive 


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The Machine has a Fujitsu 10GB IDE drive set on cable select as its on a compaq - the machine has been running 6.303 no problems for a while.

    If i try the cd on another machine its fine - VMWare on my laptop.

    I have reburned the cd at slower speed and it still fails - are there any changes to minumum hd size ???

    Every time it gets past the checksum saying ok, then as soon as it attempts to partition the drive it fails and says restart and remove cdrom ??

    Any ideas??

    There has been some discussion that some 10GB drives aren't quite big enough. Try a larger drive.

    Well, after much frustration I seem to have confirmed this. I've got some Maxtor drives that are suppose to be 10GB but they're probably more like 9.1GB drives or something. Probably falling prey to the whole GB marketing crap that the drive manufactures keep pulling. They don't know how to do math. Best thing to do is the math on your own so you can be sure.

    On the other hand I don't understand why ASG can't be a little more flexible with the drive size. I've been running a pretty nice Smoothwall setup on a 1GB drive for the past couple of years. I understand that allowing a smaller drive would require Astaro to do more work on limiting some of the features that require more drive space. It'd be nice to have some more customization options with what you install, thus allowing us to use a smaller drive if we want.
