Anyone know of 2U or 3U SHALLOW rackmount ATX?

i tell you, i have been looking and looking and i'm surprised that i have not been able to find a product that meets my needs.

I'm looking for an ATX rackmount case that is 12" or less deep. It can be 2U but 3U (or even 4U) would be great so i wouldn't need riser cards. 

i don't understand why it doesn't seem like these are being made. the biggest reason seems to be that most case makers design their cases with a lot of 5.25" bays up front.

i would like something appliance like. all i need is space for 1-2 3.5" hdd's and not even a full cdrom. i'll gladly use a slim notebook style cdrom (that's what i use in all my other servers).

i'm sure at least a couple of you have the same needs and have perhaps "discovered" something that works?

    Unless your rackmount case absolutely has to be shallow, you might want to consider getting a used professional rackmount computer. If you search on eBay for Proliant DL360, you can find an inexpensive unit that holds two SCSI drives, has two Ethernet connections on the motherboard and two free PCI slots for additional Ethernet interfaces.

    thanks for the suggestion. the g2's look pretty good, especially the dual PIII 1.4's =). there are some good deals on these that i can definitely use. one thing i really don't like about 1U servers is that they are generally pretty loud.

    unfortunately for THIS particular app. i do need a shallow case although i've changed my wall rack to and 18" depth so i have a little more flexibility. height does not matter to me (it can be 4U no problem). plus i've got tons of well spec'ed hardware that i can already use (right now, i've got an Athlon64 3500+ 2.2 Ghz, 1gb DDR3200 ram). Even maxed out using BT and http proxy i'm only using 5-6% maybe jumping to 10% and 40-50% ram.
