External WAN Link Down

I successfully installed ASG V7 on a Dell server for home use. I set up the external WAN card as a cable modem connection. The Web Admin dashboard shows the external connection as "UP" but the Link is "Down". The card seems to be communicating with the cable modem: it has an I.P. address and is recording packets it has dropped, but I can't ping the external address and of course I can't reach the Internet through the Astaro gateway.

NAT, packet filtering, and the HTTP Proxy seem to be OK. They were set up by the installation wizard. Any clues as to how I can get the link to the outside world working? This is my first experience with the ASG.

I am having the exact same problem. To get Internet flowing I had to create a rule under Network Security | Packet Filter. It was Internal --> Any --> Any. That should get the internet flowing for now. I am still researching why the ones added by Installation Wizard are not working right.

By default all traffic is blocked and not allowed to pass through the Astaro Security Gateway.
To allow traffic packet filter rules must be added.

Interesting. Then why does it create rules for you named "Added by installation wizard"?

The rule that looks like it should allow you to browse the Internet is:

Internal (Network) --> Web Surfing --> Any

But it does not seem to work. I ended up creating one that allows all out. Am I wrong?

The EXCEPTION to Packet filter rules are ones created by PROXY services so if you use HTTP proxy an "automatic" rules is created to aloow HTTP traffic to pass.. however make sure you have also set up NAT-MASQ as well otherwise you have a ROUTER not a NAT'ing Firewall !

I found that the external "Link Down" indicator does not mean that I cannot connect to the Internet. After some more experimentation, the ASG is working fine. Thanks for the suggestions.
