Jetway (via) C7 mobo + Jetway Gibabit module

I'm thinking about using this exact solution.
I'm trying to find out if the 7F2WE motherboard with the 1GHz C7 will work with v5, v6, or the new v7. It looks like v6 (maybe v5) will work with the new C7 processor.
The most interesting part, however, is the 3xLAN (10/100 or GBit) daughter card. I'm thinking about ordering this combo from mini-box.com and trying it out. If it doesn't work I'll use it as my mail server and get a SP13000 and a Dlink DFX-580 to use for Astaro.

Exactly, minibox has that nice LCD small case that everything fits in.  I'm almost certain that Astaro will run on the motherboard, as C7 processors will work with V5 and V6.  The big question is the networking hardware ... still no responses on support for these devices ... I wonder if Astaro will add the support if they don't have it now.

If I can't get Astaro V6 to work on this box, when I buy it, I may move to clarkconnect.  Not ideal, but there's more support for such hardware.

Hate to make you do this again, but it's also useful to get the PCI vendor/device ID codes from "lspci -n".

For example, using the RTL-8169 GigE card on my desktop:

In my example I used grep to filter output. In the output from the first command, make a note of the first string, this is the PCI Slot ID the card is in. Then in the second command I grep filtering using that PCI ID.

10ec:8169 is the Vendor/Device ID in this case.

OK, so it looks like the r8169 driver needs to be updated. The number of device ids supported by the kernel on my Fedora 8 desktop is much higher than the one on Astaro v7.101 and includes your NIC.

You can see how the r8169 driver for Fedora 8 matches the device ID of your NIC while the r8169 driver for Astaro does not.

Edit: BTW, you can see that support for your NIC was added to Linus' tree in July 2006, here's a link to the patch that added it:
r8169: sync with vendor's driver

Unfortunately, there is no support for this NIC in the 2.6.16 stable branch which could make backporting the changes a bit more difficult.

Anyone care to submit this to Astaro as an issue?

I notced that the 7.2 Bata is sopposed to have added HW support but still no go for these NICS. Bummer

Is it big deal to SCP in a new driver and unload the old one a load the newer version? Forgive me for being naive. I don't have much experience in updating drivers via SCP/SSH.
It's a shame the Gbit daughter card isn't part of the supported hardware list. These Jetway boards are perfect for a nice little security appliance.

i took the plunge and bought the jetway kit. [:)] at the moment it's running on the beta version 7.193 for test in an big at box. still have the intel dual pci in it for the moment.

so far so good, so i ordered a morex 3688 case, that 3 x 10/100 module and a 40gb sata disc.

hopefully i can build it all in this weekend if the postman is not in bankers holiday mood already. [;)]

I've opened a ticket with Astaro, asking for the Realtek driver to be updated.

They work fine in Fedora 8 and 9.

It may be simply a case of updating the PCI IDs.

It is really shameful that such a popular device will not work, when it's in the kernel tree and users have been asking for it for almost a year.

These NICs are the only gigE option on MANY of the low-power systems, so suggesting another brand means getting a larger, power-hungry system.

I'm not 100% certain this is going to work with the 3-port gigE Jetway NIC, but Astaro says they have a new Realtek driver in the beta:
