Jetway (via) C7 mobo + Jetway Gibabit module

I'm thinking about using this exact solution.
I'm trying to find out if the 7F2WE motherboard with the 1GHz C7 will work with v5, v6, or the new v7. It looks like v6 (maybe v5) will work with the new C7 processor.
The most interesting part, however, is the 3xLAN (10/100 or GBit) daughter card. I'm thinking about ordering this combo from mini-box.com and trying it out. If it doesn't work I'll use it as my mail server and get a SP13000 and a Dlink DFX-580 to use for Astaro.

Exactly, minibox has that nice LCD small case that everything fits in.  I'm almost certain that Astaro will run on the motherboard, as C7 processors will work with V5 and V6.  The big question is the networking hardware ... still no responses on support for these devices ... I wonder if Astaro will add the support if they don't have it now.

If I can't get Astaro V6 to work on this box, when I buy it, I may move to clarkconnect.  Not ideal, but there's more support for such hardware.

I'm currently running a PIII-800 with 4 eepro100 PCI NICs and one 3.5" HD, 1 CDROM, and 512MB RAM, and an old VGA card, which idles (Astaro) at 50-60W.
If it had an 80+ power supply, laptop hard drive, ..., it could be lower.

I believe the PIII-800 CPU maxes out around 30W, but unfortunately doesn't have many power saving features.

I'd suggest a microATX (µATX) system with a laptop/mobile CPU.
Also, microBTX or AMD's new standard are starting to be produced.
Unfortunately, most new µATX boards only have 1 PCI slot; everything else is PCI-E... maybe you'd have to get full ATX.
Regardless, you can run mobile CPUs on some ATX boards.

Today i got my Neo CV700A-3R10C.
Box looks very nice, put 1G Ram and 120Gb 2,5 HDD in.
The Speed of this Box is realy very nice (twice of a 120 box).
If sombody interesting of power consumption (PW Supply 60W), tomorow i can make test.

Looks nice... power consumption would be interesting, esp. as it's very similar to the Jetway's we're discussing.

From what I can tell, it's about 400 Euros, and I don't see anyone selling it in the U.S.

i run 7.101 on a piii 800mhz 512mb and when copying files between the lan and dmz the processor max out to 97-100%. the nic is an intel dual port 100mbps and the wan is an intel 100mbps on the motherboard.

i can't find any real info (speeds) about the bus the jetway has.

and having 1gbps in your firewall can't harm since those prices are so cheap these days. but it's more that in my work i see many installers telling customers that they NEED 1gbps interfaces while connected to the internet by only adsl with 2mbps down [:)]

i'm very tempted to buy a jetway kit since i quite like those small computers, but not only for a firewall but all my other servers too! make the electro bill lower and no more noisy fans. and no need for heavy ups systems.

Consider adding IPS exclusions between the LAN (source) and DMZ (dest).

not that i copy lots of files between those two networks but some times i move big files to my ftp or web server from a box on the lan.

Conclusion... at least in the U.S., with gigE, these are a lot more expensive than the Jetway stuff, but there is the advantage of being able to get these with Intel Nics.

I have one with Realtek. ASG 7.1 works fine so far.
Over Xmas i want to install it at home (blacklist ebay for wife, blacklist tokio hotel for children, blacklist NTP for printer/switch, whitelist nice things for me , and so on ... [;)] )
One very big plus point of this Neo-Box is the case. This case is its own heatpipe by design, and its realy heavy (nearly 4kg w/o external pw-supply).

For buying in US i think is same problem if i follow follow up some links insite this thread. Half of them are unavailable in europe.
(unavailable is wrong word, not 1-Click-Buy'able sounds better [:)] )

My best guess is that this CPU, which is described as a 1GHz Celeron-M Dothan, is the Ultra Low Voltage model with 512k or 1MB cache.
If so, the CPU only uses 5watts, which is better than the VIA chips (best 1GHz VIA is 7W, 1.5GHz is 12W).
The Celeron may be faster as well.
Also, I believe this has the NIC LEDs visible through the front of the case.
The only problem is the price of the Lex systems compared to the Jetways.

If the Realtek gigE NICs are working fine in ASL, I'll probably just get the Jetway J7F2WE1G5 board, AD3RTLANG 3-port NIC, and the fanless Morex T3310 case.

It has 3 gigE Intel NICs, PCI and PCIe slots, and supports up to 2GB RAM.

According to Wikipedia, CPUs are purportedly available at as low as 5.5W for single-core, and 9W for dual-core. However, Newegg only seems to have 27W and 31W CPUs.
If Astaro supported CPUSpeed, etc., the power usage would probably be much better on a CPU like this.
