If it has any fans, are they working?

In the as120 (it's an appliance) there is no fan. Cool off system is made passively like the old 386/486 system.

Probably, Astaro team should add one fan this will prevent any damage.

For my part, to prevent a damage due to hot temperature, I put a really big fan (one for the human in fact) directly face to hole in appliance. Maybe I will try to make it more professionnal look if I have time,putting a fan for ATX for exemple.

And before you ask, the as120 is in a piece cool-off in permanence (18~20 ° C) because it's the server room.

You have two ways to generate some Airflow inside the "little" ASGs:

Mount it in upright position. So you have a natural airflow, the housing already has some holes.  But in the normal position they are on the left and the right hand side so the hot air cannot leve the housing on the natural way (to the top...)

Second way: if you have an older fan (from 486-processors or older Pentiums) the will exactly fit in the holes of the case...

We also had some -120's that stopped working while over-heated, all of them are now working properly wih a little fan...

ASG 120 is made for about 25 users. Also they are sold with unlimited, but mainly because they can handle pure packetfilter traffic quite good, without anything else running. Proxy usage with AV and content filtering on dose have its need for power.

They specially overheat, with higher room temperatures. You have to see, they are build for the cold german climate ;-).

You are right, hole are in the side, so airflow isn't the best. I plan to put a 386 fan on it to rise up efficiency.

If you are running 100 users through it, you are probably throwing more at it than it can handle... those units are only good for about 25 users, as someone said above, think Small Office scenarios.  I have put in 512MB DRAM in them just to make it fast enough for 20 users or so... I would seriously consider upgrading to an ASG 220, or better yet, an ASG 320 if you plan to make heavy use of the Proxy features.

I agree with you. Before I work for this society, it was Astaro 4 on a Compaq proliant server. They change the product just when I came (end of licence) and choose the as120.

In fact, I don't know the Astaro's appliance gamme. And If it was just a problem in the choose of the product, I will try to choose an other one of Astaro But support's reactiveness is terriblely low. There one guy of there team that try to help but he focus on the spamassassin module and I have more problem than that (I experience frequent downtime). More important, I tell them the number of user (about 30, with max 80) and they don't even tell me that as120 is over it capacity.

I guess you're in France, right?  Well, in the States the Reseller channel is somewhat tasked with helping a customer determine what their needs are.. our support here is excellent as well... As a reseller, I've helped a lot of customers with their issues, often well enough to avoid even dealing with support, but when we have to use them, I've had great experiences.  Do look an ASG 320 for your organization.. that ASG 120 is simply underpowered for your environment.. we generally only deploy the 120 in environments where the users number 15 or less.  I'll bet your "downtime" issues will go away with adequate hardware.. the ASG software in it's current version (6.303) has proven to be quite stable in my customer's environments.. except for an issue with the "first" 6.303 update that caused a few problems out there.

I check the gamme of astaro, information are quite ambiguous there don't talk of number of user. I guess that our partner/reseller misenderstood unlimited user and 3000 connection.
