Changing nic?

Total Linux and Firewall newbie.

I downloaded ASG for eval and self-training and loaded it on a Dell T450 that I added a 2nd nic to. Installed OK and I started playing around setting up a test environment with a server and some pc's on the inside and some pc's on the outside. THen I found out that the eth1 nic was bad. It was detected and I could configure it, but it was bad.

So, I deleted the eth1 interface in ASG, and installed a new Intel Pro card in the slot, now I can see the link lights, but when I try to add an eth1 interface in ASG, there is no card there. How do you add a nic to an existing installation? Do I have to reinstall from scratch to detect the nic?

You're supposed to backup the config, and re-install, however you can usually get by with editing the modules config file in /etc.

Thanks so much, that wasn't too painful. I just used vi to change the alias on eth1, rebooted and was able to add the interface in the gui. On with the eval!
