CPU Use and Ram Use

Hello All,

I have been looking at the perfomance metrics on the web management interface for our ASG320 and also using the console and 'Top' and the two dont match!

For instance when the web int says that the ram use is at 75% Top reports it almost at 100% for example right now its says - 

top - 10:29:40 up 1 day, 18:32,  1 user,  load average: 1.06, 1.51, 1.58
Tasks: 130 total,   1 running, 127 sleeping,   0 stopped,   2 zombie
Cpu(s): 37.7% us,  6.0% sy,  0.3% ni, 51.3% id,  1.0% wa,  2.0% hi,  1.7% si
Mem:   1028012k total,   982988k used,    45024k free,    18696k buffers
Swap:  1052248k total,   265992k used,   786256k free,   144296k cached


So two questions,

1. Which do I believe?

2. At what point do I need to be worried about these figures? Including the CPU use ones (not that I get what they mean in the web interface)


Oh also before I ring Astaro anyone know if its possible to upgrade them ram in these appliances?

    this is the response from Astaro support - - Thanks to Cameron.

    The Memory usage graphs and the top will show differently.  To identify if the system is using all available memory simply look to see if Swap is being used.  Once swap is used then the system is using all available memory.
    The reason the top command and the webadmin graph look difference is the webadmin graph will not show the cache or buffer values which top does.

    The cpu performance is measured in processes awaiting cpu time.
    Normally good performance is below 1.0 however on higher end systems ranges under 2.0 (Due to hyperthreading) are decent.  If this load is continually above 2.0 or spiking above 8.0 then there is a performance problem.

    Top can be used to identify top processes for understanding where the cpu/memory is being heavily utilized. 

    The Performance meters for cpu and memory are being redone for V7 to display a more user intuitive meter with load up to 100% and indicators for green, yellow, red.

    He also said that these devices are unable to be upgraded.

    The ASG appliances are not supported to be upgraded, unfortunately.  For performance throughput suggestions I would recommend that if you are using the http proxy for web traffic scanning instead of using double virus scanners a very good performance increase can be realized by disabling the open source AV engine.

    This can be done in system>>AV Engines.  Disable the open source AV engine for http proxy.
