installation ASG v6.202 in vmware

Hello all,

After some years working with a lot of pleasure I need to upgrade now.
I try to upgrade to v6.202 on a ATX box with vmware on top of fedora core 5.
It went well, although I cannot wrap my head around the interface stuff.

The target is:

1. to have 1 ASG running for a LAN, and DMZ with a connection to a gateway (router) to the WAN side.
2. to have a windows server running on the LAN side on the same box with vmware.

Total: 2 virtual machines.

I have 4 physical NIC's.
The ip-address for the WAN card is 192.168.2.100. The gateway (router) is 192.168.2.1
The ip-address of the LAN NIC is 192.168.199.100
The ip-address of the DMZ NIC is 192.168.134.100

what I learned is that Astaro security gateway need a interface with the ip-address of 192.168.150.5

Is there anyone who can tell me how to configure this so it will work?

Do I need 1 physical NIC or more?
how do I configure the vmnet adapters in Fedora?

    Ok. I started with reading the whole story (RTFM) and I came up with a usable configuration:

    The flavor of vmware I applied is VMware server 1.0.1 build-29996.

    a host only adapter
    a bridged adapter
    a custom adapter

    /dev/vmnet0 is bridged to eth0. Eth0 is the physical NIC of the host (192.168.2.100) which has a gateway of the router towards the NET (192.168.2.1)

    /dev/vmnet2 is the virtual NIC and connects both VM's to the outside NIC.
    /dev/vmnet8 is the NAT NIC to make ftp/web etc possible from a DMZ interface.

    What wondered me in a great deal is the slowness that ASG v6.202 is booting with. If this is going to be used in a production environment, this is definitely going to be a issue!
    It takes a half an hour before the login appears. This is unacceptable long.

    another thing is that when I use the https interface of the vmware-mui, I really need to configure the vmnet1 device to the astaro ip-address 192.168.150.5.
    I never ever can reach to the webadmin page and get finally starting with this message I see there:

    'No virtual machine network adapters were found'.

    Is there anybody out the who joins me in this and bear with me? I hope for an answer. As a Astaro user from the very start I deserve better than this.

    Hi all,

    I gave up on this. While starting up the VM, too much bugs flew out. I guess
    fedora core 5 is'nt going to be one of the chosen few to carry VMware plus astaro on it.
    One big mistake to assume it will finally work.
