Multiple IP on NIC

Hi,

we have a compaq proliant DL360 as an ASL box, all PCI slots are being used in this box for 3NIC's. Now I need a 4th nic for a 3rd ADSL line. Since I don't have space for it I wonder if the following is possible:

- add a second public IP to an existing NIC
- use a switch on the public side to connect both ADSL lines to the interface with 2 public IP's.
- use policy based routing in order to route traffic to the correct ADSL line.

Is this setup possible ?

    I might be wrong, but that doesn't sound particularly workable. Have you thought about getting a multi-homing router to go in front of the firewall? They make ones that will take 4 WAN connections and put them into a single IP. I'm using a dual-WAN router right now without problems (other than the router itself being shoddy, but I'm getting a better one).

    Out of curiosity, do you already have Astaro handling 2 WAN connections, and if so what did you have to set in Astaro to do so?

    Hi,

    yes thought of that, but traffic on the different ADSL lines should be kept separated. 

    Yes I got 2 separate wan connections wokring. I use policy based routing to route traffic to the 2 nics.

    Another thing you could do is to get one of the USB network adapters. I'm actually using one now (another cheap item left here by a friend who didn't care to take it back, but they make better), but I ordered a PCIE gigabit NIC along with the new router, so won't be using it for much longer. It's working fine in the meantime.

    Thought of that too, but I decided to go for a muliport NIC. That should work too.
