Astaro install error :(

Your choice of hardware is not very good. There are several problems with it:

1. Don't try to run ASG ver 6 on an AMD K6 chip. I don't think that will work.
2. Using just 256 MB RAM is not enough. Install at least 384 MB
3. The Realtek RTL8029AS is a NE2000 NIC clone. What that means, is that you are using the very worst Ethernet cards you could possibly get hold of.

My suggestion is this:
Your PC case with the ATX power supply, your Western digital 30 GB disk drive, and the 256 MB RAM are worth keeping, but get rid of the K6 motherboard and the two Realtek RTL8029AS Ethernet cards. You need to start over with a better machine. Look for a good used P3 based machine. I only paid $80 for the used Compac small form factor 500 MHz P3 machine that I currently run my home Astaro firewall on.

One of the 128 dimm that i use in the AMD K6 II 450 is about 128 $ or 41 u$s .. i don´t have money to spend in an Astaro machine.

One of the virtues of linux servers is the magic that you can make with no much more expensive machines...

You really say that i need spend some money to make an server that can use me, my family (3 machines) and 2 friends (2 more machines).

Simmply i want securize my network.. and a server where we can download ours emails.. like an exchange server.. 

You really think that i need spend more money?

Here are the minimum hardware requirements for Astaro ver 6.x:

CPU:  Intel Pentium II > 900MHz
RAM: 256MB (512MB/1GB recommended)
CDROM: IDE or SCSI (see HCL for supported SCSI controller)
Harddisk: > 9 GB hard disk drive and above (see HCL for supported SCSI controller)
NIC: at least 2 PCI NICs (see HCL for support chipsets)


Your VIA VT6105 Ethernet cards are OK, you can use those. But you are still going to need a different motherboard than the K6 one that you tried to use.

AMD K6 chips are not much good anymore, since most newer software releases won't run on them. Software that I do know will install and run on a K6 CPU includes Astaro ver 5.x (or older), the current Debian based Linux distributions, Microsoft Windows 2000 (or older) and NetWare 4.1x (or older). However, most other operating system software released in the last few years either won't install, or won't run properly on a K6 chip. This is the technical reality that you are faced with, and any sympathy you deserve for your problem of very high computer prices in Argentina doesn't change that.

Astaro will probably run fine on that computer, but you will need better network cards.  Like a DLink or Linksys card.

I say my actuallity because it tried to affect its feelings to see if somebody gave a new computer to me.

Don't worry about the "minimum" system requirements.  I was running ASG 5.xxx on a Pentium 200mhz w/128MB of ram for awhile with decent NIC's and everything was fine.  It didn't break any speed records, but it was still faster than my cable modem.  

Just try it out...worst case, it won't work, then you can upgrade what you need to.
