Intel Pro/1000 PT not detected by ASL

I have a computer with a nForce4 mainboard. It has five NICs:
- the default nForce4 NIC (onboard, not supported by ASL)
- an additional Marvell NIC (onboard, connected to the PCI-E bus).
- Intel Pro/1000 MT Dual Port adapter (2x NIC, running in a PCI slot)
- Intel Pro/1000 PT adapter (running in a 1x PCI-E slot)

I bought the "Intel PT" adapter since ASL does not support the nForce4 onboard NIC and since I didn't have any free PCI slots left. (I need 4 NICs available to ASL)

While the "Marvell" and the two "Intel MT" NICs are detected by the ASL setup program, the "Intel PT" adapter doesn't show up in the overview. (I already tested the "Intel PT" under Windows 2003 without any problems)

Since the "Marvell" NIC is detected, I suppose that the PCI-E interface is not the reason for the problem.

Is anybody else using one of the new "Intel PT" PCI-E networking cards with ASL or knows any solution for this problem?

    Support for the Intel PT cards is a known problem I believe. Search the forums and have a look at the HCL in the knowledge base.

    Do you know if the card is supported in the latest Linux kernel or via Intel drivers, and what driver is required to support it?

    Definitely open a support ticket with Astaro requesting support. Getting the output of `lspci -v` when logged in as root wil also be helpful.

    I searched the forum before, but the word "PT" is too short for the search function and always ignored no matter what other search term I enter.

    So I tried only "Intel" and got many topics. I filtered them by date (since the "Intel PT" adapters were released a few months ago) and the only topic I found was this one, where two people say that their PCI-E adapters are working fine.

    The HCL contains no entry for both the onboard "Marvell" and the "Intel PT" NICs, but the "Marvell" is detected while the "Intel PT" is not.

    I cannot tell what networking chip version/revision is installed on the "Intel PT" since there is a passive cooling device on it.

    I just tried the latest KNOPPIX version and it doesn't detect the "Intel PT" adapter either. But it does detect the onboard NVIDIA NIC. Now I'm completely confused.

    Knoppix likely includes a much newer kernel than what is shipped with Astaro (2.6.10 + selected bugfixes).

    To support the onboard Nvidia NIC you likely need an updated forcedeth driver. Get the relevant output from lspci -v for both the Nvidia NIC and the Intel PT driver, post it here and open a support ticket with Astaro.

    As a work around if you don't need GigE support, I have found some inexpensive 4-port 10/100 nics which work great in Astaro which will get around your PCI slot limitation: http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=425

    Here is the "lspci -v" output. It doesn't contain any info about the onboard NVIDIA NIC since it isn't connected to the PCI bus. But the "Marvell" and the "Intel PT" are listed (the "Intel MT" is listed too, but since it's working I didn't post it here).
