We have been reselling ASL for quite a fiew years now, and must say that the software is very good. We have quite a few installations and extremely few problems with any of them.
One problem ocurred however at one of our customers, they have around 14.000 messages processed in their spam-proxy each day. Ofcourse this is a dual system with DNS managed MX records. The primary ASL (MX1) is a fearly good equipt device with dual P4, SATA drive and 1,5GB of memory. Ofcourse SATA drive are not so durable as the more expensive SCSI drives, but they are cheap.
We have changed hard drive one time since initial startup to ensure continued and optimal performance. The new drive was taken in use from around Januray this year.
A few weeks back we started to notice a problem, the ASL suddenly started to stop relaying emails. I did some configuration changes before trying a reboot. The configuration was not saved ? After some more researching of the logs, it is clear that the EXT3FS has mounted one of the partition READONLY due to continued errors on the drive. This is ofcourse logical and probably the safest thing to do. But now the smtp-proxy continues to run and receive messages, but due to the partition which is remounted readonly the proxy cannot complete the delivery to the exchange server.
I talked to the Astaro Support about this, suggested that this must be a loophole and that the system should check for readonly status of partitions and shutdown services which would not work because of the readonly status. To my suprise they meant that this was an feature that should be requested by using my.astaro.com, personally I would nearly define this as a bug in the system.
Appriciate some more comments on this.
Best regards
