New installation of an Astaro Gateway

Hi everybody, i hope i am right here [;)].

We plan to replace our Checkpoint FW with an Astaro Gateway in HA configuration.

But we have some Questions.

We want to use one VPN connection and the Web filtering (Virus and Content)
We are round about 200 Users that surfing thru the Gateway

Is that possible with an 220 Gateway or we need the 320? What do you think?

    I wouldn't go with a 220 on that. Web content filtering adds more to the load than you would think. 

    We normally handle this by doing an evaluation with our customers before they buy, so they're happy with the performance before having to purchase a device. instead of guessing at performance, you can be sure you're not going to run into anything funky that way. 

    but lean towards a 320, not the 220. Don't skimp here, you may pay for it later.

    thanks fpr your answers.
    I think its really better to install an 320.

    I have a question with the mail.
    atm they are checked for virus and spam at the external services from messagelabs an than they go to the firewall that we use at the Moment (Checkpoint) and this will it forward to the Exchange Server in our network.
    Is that also possible with the ASG 320 and how?

    Hi pineiro, 

    Yes this setup is possible and very easy todo.

    Just install the ASG320 and activate the SMTP proxy.

    There you can define a profile where you need to enter your domains for which you want to accept emails.
    And a profile assigment to which smtp server you want to sent the emails to.



    The Exchange Server can be defined in Definitions > Networks. There you only need to enter the name and the IP address or Hostname.

    Once this is running, you can easily enabled anti-virus or anti-spam. 
    Than you don't need your hosted service anymore.

    I made a little Mistake i think the smtp Proxy is only available with the Email Subscription, but that is not so.

    Is it possible to configure the Gateway complete before i use it? So that we have a very Small downtime a the Install Time?

    Yes, you can completely configure it 'offline', but you should spend time for a first test run, maybe in the evening, when there's not so much traffic, and check out if everything works as expected.
    Also be sure to connect at least once and get all Up2Dates especially all virusscan-signatures. They're a bit old after installing from the CD !!
