Here is the situation;
I currently have asl 6.20 latest version fully patched.
I was up up until today using an adsl line to connect to the net with PPPoE -- everything worked fine.
Today i tried to switch from dsl to a cable modem
So what i did was in the network interface settings i changed the external card from PPPoE to standard ethernet interface with everything assigned by DHCP --
After i did this asl got the ip, gateway and netmask --
however when i tried to surf the web things were extremely slow and i was getting a lot of packet loss -- i did not have either packet loss or slow surfing with the dsl line
so i decided to plug the cable modem directly into my computer to see if i got the same results --
amazingly i had no packet loss and the line was very fast when connected directly to my computer???
I dont get it? what am i doing wrong?
the dsl is fine -- the cable is fine when plugged into my computer directly -- but if i go from the cable to the asl to the network i get a lot of packet loss and very slow surfing??
In case you were wondering i have a 3com network card for the external interface -- luckily i had an extra card -- exactly the same one lying around -- so when i saw the line loss i switched out the cards to see if that was the issue -- no go same problem -- even with the new card the dsl works fine but the cable modem does not
