Network Noob Needs Help Please Can't Get Online

I want to use Astaro to firewall a XP x64 box, so being the Network newbie I am, I thought since Astaro uses the IP of 192.168.2.100 to log in to the Webadmin that in XP under TCP/IP I would assign the IP of, 192.168.2.101 and a netmask of 255.255.255.0 so I could login, well this works.

Now in the network interface I add in my second card as 'eth1' and name it External, then pic it and use the standard interface for it.

Under the IP, Mask and Gateway I put them all on DHCP, then when I added them, out in the interface it was green, but showed as  'Down' in red and where there should of been the addresses, it was just question marks, ???????

How do I go about getting the box online?

    Hey I might have the same issue.  See thread " ExtNIC Cards stopped after 6.X upgrade DHCP/Static"  Take a look at your log files and see if you see something like this:

    dhcpcd[7409]: broadcasting DHCP_DISCOVER

    and a minute later:

    dhcpcd[7409]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response

    I could not get v6 external interface up with either static of dynamic.  I also tried various NIC cards but eventually had to revert back to v5.  You could try that.  I have been using this product since v2.

    Well if we are going to use DHCP do we need to go into the DHCP option and put it on Server?

    I added in the eth1, named as External and put it on DHCP for the IP, Mask and Gateway, but then I thought if we use DHCP then don't we need the DHCP server?

    So I started the DHCP server and put in the IPs, Mask, Gateway, and DNS, but no luck with that, the only interface to pick was the 'Internal', but I thought that would be the nic eth0, assigning to eth1.

    Man I suck at this stuff, LOL

    Ok YIPPIE I got a IP, I guess all I had to do was recycle the modem, now CRAP on to the fun stuff, trying to figure how to do NAT and get it online.

    AHHHHHHHH  [:(]

    Sheesh this thing is not user-friendly. And the DOCS don't really tell you from a newbie standpoint how to do things at all.

    Some more helpful information on the DOCs would be great.

    Where is the Getting Started Guide?  I go to the knowledgebase and try to access the Initial Setup Howto and it points me to docs and I go there and it points me to the knowledgebase.

    The user manual is nice, but a simple guild on the fastest way to get up and running would be nicer.  THEN the user manual would be the next step.

    The knowledge base works best if you have "allow third party cookies" set in your browser.
