Hardware requirements for V6

I'm getting ready to upgrade from 4.x running on a 400MHZ/256MB machine but I can't seem to find any threads (or pages on astaro.com) discussing the hardware requirements of v6.

Will 1Ghz/512MB be enough to run the same services that are running fine on the current machine?

    IME, 1GHz CPU and 512MB RAM will be enough depending on how many features you plan on using (proxy services, virus scanning, IDS, etc).

    If you're using it as a basic firewall and a few proxy services, you'll be fine.

    Worst case scenario, make sure you have a backup of your V4 configuration and you can fall back if things don't work out until you can get more hardware.

    Thanks for the reply. I searched the knowledgebase a bit more and ran across the following. It only discusses v5 and v6 but it looks like base hardware requirements have doubled with the latest release. That probably means my planned 1GHz/512MB configuraiton will be iffy at best, particularly once I discover and decide to take advantage of the latest features. That's too bad, because a faster machine will probably mean more noise and more power consumption. 

    I wonder what CPU is used in the appliances Astaro sells.

        The minimum hardware requirements for Astaro Security Linux are:

        CPU:  Intel Pentium II > 900MHz
        RAM: 256MB (512MB/1GB recommended)
        CDROM: IDE or SCSI (see HCL for supported SCSI controller)
        Harddisk: > 9 GB hard disk drive and above (see HCL for supported SCSI controller)
        NIC: at least 2 PCI NICs (see HCL for support chipsets)

    Further Information:

        For versions 5.000 or later:

        CPU: PII > 400MHz
        RAM: 128 MB (256 recommended)
        CDROM: IDE or SCSI (see HCL for supported SCSI controller)
        Harddisk: > 5GB IDE or SCSI (see HCL for supported SCSI controller)
        NIC: at least 2 PCI NICs (see HCL for support chipsets)

    It all depends on how much traffic you have...
    users (web proxy / content filtering)
    emails (smtp proxy / virus / spam filtering)
    ...

    If you're not using the proxies, your old PC will be enough, otherwise it depends on your traffic levels.
