uplink failover

I am having a problem with the uplink failover.  My primary interface is a pppoe adsl connection and the backup connection is a ethernet card connected to a wireless connection.  i setup the primary connection with the ping ip to check of its gateway, now if i unplug the dsl line to simulate a power failer or dsl failer at the telephone company, it trys to failover to the backup interface, the problem is as soon as it fails over to the backup interface the gateway ip of the dsl connection (esenital the isp router) becomes pingable through the internet and it then trys to go back to the adsl connection which of course is still down.  My question is this if the isp makes the adsl gateway address un-pingable from the wireless address then it will stay up but will it ever switch back over to the primary dsl connection?

    That sounds like a bug: it shouldn't be trying to bring up the primary interface until it can ping the target IP through that interface.  What version of ASL are you running?

    I've tested failover here on various version of v6 and haven't seen that problem.

    What I've done with a test firewall is setup 3 interfaces, one primary external, one backup external and an internal interface.

    Both external interfaces are setup on the same subnet.

    I unplug the primary external interface and after 30 seconds or so it switches over to the backup and connectivity is restored.

    Plug the primary back in, and it switches back to the primary interface (verified by unplugging the backup).

    I will have to test with each external on a different subnet, but setup the ping test IP to one that is pingable from both.
