Because ASL versions 5 and 6 require a faster machine with more RAM than v4 does. IF your ASL box is slower than a 500 MHz P3, and has less than 512 MB RAM, ASL v 4 will perform better than the newer versions, since it has less computational overhead. It is primarily webadmin and virus scanning of emails that is affected by this. My three year ASL v4 license won't expire for another 15 months.
Thank you for the explanation. There is another thread with some-one running PII and 128mb, maybe he should be pointed at V4.x rather than v6.x he is trying to run.
