1's and 0's after reboot during install

I am a newbie trying to install astaro 5.2

After the inital part pf the install I reboot my pc as directed, but can never seem to log in to complete the config remotely.  I can't reach it from other IP's in the same subnet.  When I go back to the Astaro box, the moniotr is filed with "L 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 ..."  It fills up about 1/2 the screen.  

Any ideas please...

    The install is on a pIII 866.  40 gb hard drive.  1 regular nic and 1 dual port nic.  It is sonnected to the network through a linksys switch and sits behind a generic westell DSL router/modem/firewall.  I hope to have astaro replacing that box firewall altogether.

    Thank-you for the LILO tip.  Now that you mention it I ~may~ have left this hard drive on the 'cable select' option instead of setting it to 'master'.  I will check that out in the morning.  I guess I will probably have to reinstall again..??..

    I thought maybe it was a licensing issue if I didn't try my download fast enough within the time-period or something.  LILO sounds more likely...

    Thanks guys!  I'll update when I know more.  But please post any other thoughts or ideas if anyone has them...

    If cable select was the problem, you would be getting "insert boot disk" or something like that.

    Check the BIOS.

    I changed the jumper on the HD from 'cable select' to 'master' and nothing changed - still "01 01 01 01 01".  I then reinstalled and magically I get a local login.  

    I still can't log-in with web-admin from another machine, and it is only showing one nic instead of 3, but I feel better just getting past that one issue...
