Astaro 6 with S-ATA

If the BIOS has a "legacy mode" for the sata controller, try that.

Otherwise, perhaps you should email support.

There is no legacy mode in the BIOS.

This server is for my home. I bought a few of them because they are so cheap, one was going to be my firewall.

No more ideas anyone?

I think I may use an old machine for the f/w - seems the easiest!!

I don't know wether it's really helping you, but I also baught some of the DELL PowerEdge, but it were the SC420, with a 80G-SATA-Drive.

ASL installed without any problems on the PowerEdge. Do they have the same mainboard?

Perhaps it's a problem with your hardware. Did you try another one of your PowerEdges?

Dell Poweredge SC430 will not work with V6 out the box. Dell upgraded the SATA controller from a ICH6 chipset to a ICH7.

As a work around I purchased a cheap SIIG SATA PCI controller and disabled the onboard. Works great.

For Astaro to get lead time notice on that from Dell requires enrollment in a program that Dell charges for. So rather than do that and pass on the charges to you, Astaro gets to it when they have had time to test it after its formal release.

Dell has great support, but it would be nice if they made this advance info available without charging for it...

This would be more of an Intel thing than a Dell thing, as the ICH chips are part of the Intel P4 chipsets.

Regardless, ISTM that Astaro mostly uses standard Linux kernel code, so I expect that they would wait for the upstream kernel to add new IDE drivers, etc.
Of course, ASL doesn't update the kernel very often, so there can be a (significant) delay from when it's in Linus's kernel to when Astaro decides to update the kernel.

I don't know if Linux currently supports ICH7 or not.

So, the SIP proxy will not replace the ATA machine. I thought that I may be able to use the X-lite as a phone to my SIP proxy and register to one of the companies that provide telephony IP.
