Why no update from ASL 5.2xx to ASL 6 ???

Hello,

why is it only available for ASG´s ?

My ASL runs on a Lex Light without CDROM etc...
I even won´t loose my saved Logfiles...

So why is there is no way to upgrade  from V5 to V6 without reinstalling?

    The upgrade for the ASG DOES do a reinstall. It downloads a special iso image, stores it in swap, and mounts it like a virtual cdrom. The reason for this is that ASGs do not have a cdrom.

    But even IF it was available for non-ASG users, it is STILL doing a reinstall, and you lose all logs, reports, etc. Just hook up a cdrom and reinstall.

    With every Version update, you'll gonna loose all your logfiles and statistics.
    Did you ever try to see, how bandwith usage increases over the last 12-24 months ?
    Surfing behaviour ? Accounting ? Mail transfer ???

    Surely not, because you can't ! There was at least one re-install.
    OK, if you're a console freak, you could login as root via PuTTY, tar the files to home directory and then get them via SCP.
    After updating, the same procedure back (but only if the format didn't change)
    Normal users won't / can't do that !!

    ... i think the answer of Astaro would be: "Why don't you buy ARM ?"

    It would be nice if during install, it checked for an existing install and asked "Would you like to preserve existing log files?", at a minimum, the RRD data for the charts should be easy to preserve. Or if that presents issues duing install for some reason, a backup log files option in webadmin that would let you download them to another machine and then upload them during the first webadmin connection on the new install.
