Multiple External NICs?

let me try some suggestions.
1/. have you tried each internet interface to make sure it works eg you can access the internet through it.
2/. Do you have filters setup for the protocols you want to go out/in each interface
3/. you will need I think a NAT rule of some sort for each interface as well
4/. you will wiil need to setup the proxies to handle it as well - not sure about this bit.

Understandable suggestions, which leads me to include information I should have included in my first post.  (Whoops, didn't think it through).

I currently have the Astaro firewalled configured and working fine with only the two NICs active (First External & LAN).  All the rules work as planned allowing my users to access certain features of the internet, such as web browseing and email.  The rules also allow outside access to our website, and my little remote admin tool that I can use from any system attached to the internet.  At this point all I'm trying to do is add the second card with a different address for the exclusive use of Outlook Web Access.  There is no intention to use a form of load balancing or connection sharing at all.  In theory all the other rules should be working as planned and access for the users should be going through the first NIC.  However, immediately upon activating the second NIC and it successfully retrieves an IP address, all abilities to use the Internet from my LAN users (at least my system) ceases.  No rules are added or changed when activating the second card, nor would I think any change necessary.  I do not understand why it won't continue to send traffic through the first card, and recieve the responses when this second card is activated.

Now, both cards are the same type - DLink 538's, tried and true good NICs.  I don't really have any other types lying around, but could my issues somehow be that Astaro is getting confused between the hardware when both are active?

Have you looked at the logs to see if the packet filter is shutting down traffic? With both external NICs on the same hub it could see the traffic from NIC1 on NIC2 and be getting confused. If the IPs are static, can you skip DHCP for at least the second IP address and assign it as a second IP address on the first NIC (or have you already tried that and it won't work with your ISP for some reason)?

Another thing to check would be IRQ assignments to make sure the cards aren't sharing IRQs. Theoretically sharing should be fine, but it doesn't always work out that way. I usually try to avoid it if possible.

Yes ISP kills the thought of aliasing.  They are static addresses, however Telus assigns them via permenant MAC address reservations through DCHP.  I found this out after I tried to use aliasing.

I do believe they are sharing IRQs.. IRQ 11.  Now, I've only got 3 PCI slots on this motherboard, 2 so far being used by the NICs and the third NIC is integrated.  Should I try a different combination of slots, or is there another way to make sure each has it's own IRQ.  Even if I could get it working via switching PCI slots around, I may eventually want to add a 3rd NIC to the last slot to serve as a DMZ zone, so I may end up in the same situation.  Would it simply be better to get a motherboard is 5 or 6 PCI slots to play with instead?

Are both nics getting IP's in the same subnet space? Or do they both have different gateways, etc? This will not work because the default route on the system changes, as does the interface that default gateway is reachable from.

This would be a best bet to ask Astaro support.. however I think they might say the same thing here.

Yes they are in the same subnet space, and would use the same default gateway.  The IP's are back to back - x.x.x.210 and x.x.x.211.

Already contacted tech support, have come up with one possibility to try which will likely wait for the weekend to implement.

And yes, DSL Modem.  The Firewall is the Router.

Moving the NICs to different slots may help (depending on the motherboard), although only three slots doesn't give you much room to play. A different MB with more slots might be a good idea, especially if you may need to add another NIC down the road (check out the docs before buying to see how the IRQ/slot assignments will work out). If support has an idea, I'd try that first though (it's cheaper). 

Too bad Telus makes you have two MACs in order to have two IPs - what a pain.

Well I think I've just found my answer via Astaro Support... unfortunately it is not good news for me:

"In reviewing what you are trying to do, it is not possible for astaro to
receive more than one IP from a PPOE connection. The reason that you are
not excepting traffic is because the 2 external IPS are causeing
spoofing. The ability to use more than one IP from a PPOE connection
will be availible in a future release."

Thus Aliasing is the only way to accomplish what I want to do, and I can't do it due to the set up of our ISP.  Figures.

It would involve spending money, but could you put in another DSL connection for the second NIC? That would keep both the ISP and Astaro happy, and let you use policy based routing from V6 to route Outlook web access through the second NIC and everything else through the first.

Just set up an additional address on the original nic. I have 4 addresses commin over my single external nic. Not by my choice, i wanted to seperate them all, but it will help me expand later iguess with the consolidation. I too contacted Astaro about this. I currently have our pptp, wan and a second wan address (same supernet) going over the same nic. When i configured 2 nics, it brought my netwrok down because of routing issues.

If you already tried this, my bad. I have a crappy 1 meg fractional t1 (for now) and haven't had to mess with dsl.
