Max Memory

Does ASL  need  more then 4GB memory ??
Maybe for ISPs ??  [:S]

How do you figure Astaro won't work for isp's?  Some of the largest enterprises use Astaro to push more data per hour than some isp's do in a day.

Exactly ... I'm working for an ISP. We provide high bandwith to our customers.  We have almost 11,000 mailboxes with no limit in storage and 20 MB cababilities in attachment ..  

The ASL compromised is used to pass POP3/IMAP sessions, webmail access, SSH access to the 'Host Protected Server' and to send out the e-mails that our clients send to the internet .. 

Actually we are running ASL 5.206 in a dual Intel Xeon 2.6 GHz, 80 GB HD SCSI-II, and 4 GB or RAM.  Actually, the ASL is using almost 3.3 GB of RAM.

I know we're feeding a server network right off our DS3 w/ 1gb of ram... average transfer rate is between 9 and 16mps through that firewall.

at nights it jumps much higher for when the servers perform their backups.

As long as your swap is not approaching say a gig  or higher and climbing then 4 gigs should be plenty.  There are some CLI tweaks i have posted to reduce squid's memory usage(which can be piggish) plus the 2.4.x kernels tend to be a bit swappy anyways.  What's your load and swap look like?

for that size I'd suggest the 4 gigs ya & the fastet SCSI drive you can grab :-) I've got a few schools running w/ about 6-9k users behind it w/ a 10mb line on ide drives & 1gb of ram so scaling up shouldn't be to much of a problem.

but at that user count... hmm I'd highly suggest not doing caching on that box :-)
