801.11g

I'm building ASL 6.0 for the first time for home use. I want to intall a 801.11g card but it is my understanding that PCI 802.11 cards do not work. I have seen that you can use a PCMCIA to PCI adapter with a 802.11 PCMCIA and that works.

Question #1

Will any PCMCIA to PCI adapter work if not can I get a list of ones that do?

Question #2

Is there an updated hardware list for 802.11? Under the HCL there is no mention of 802.11 for 6.0 but yet there is for ASL5. Is it the same list or has it expanded?

If anyone has it working I would love to hear what components your using.

IIRC, ASL 6 does not support wireless cards at all.

You'll have to use ASL 5 (With a Prism II card), or use a separate AP.

I don't think there was an official announcement as to why, but speculation on these forums was along the lines of:
WEP is too insecure.
AP's with WPA are cheap.
...

the same reason, why you dont use your FW as a switch [:)]
/crude_mode

Think the costs are the prime reason. AP are so cheap, that is dosent make sense for astaro implementing AP features into ASL. A least in the moment.

also most vendors of wireless cards lock their code very very tightly amking it diffulcult to support in linux without tons of extra time and money. This is much more expensive than jsut buying an AP and using a DMZ.
