Installing from USB CD-ROM ?

Hello,

I'm wondering if installing Astaro from an external USB CD-ROM is possible.

I have a pizza-box machine sitting in a rack that runs astaro and it doesn't have any CD-ROM drive installed. I can't plug a CDROM drive without opening the case, changing the IDE connections and patching an external power supply into the box. It's not complex, but it's a bit long.

So I'm wondering if I couldn't simply plug an USB CD-ROM to that machine and run the install from there. It would be a nice improvement to my disaster recovery plan concerning Astaro.

    Hi,

    if it is bootable this shouldn't be a problem. But remember if you do this the installation setup will delete all data on the harddrive during the installation process as it does during every ASL installation. So make sure you have a
    backup of your settings which you can import back after the installation.

    No problem... The backup is mailed to me every week and I make an extra copy every time I change something major. The only thing I'm going to lose is one day's worth of logs.
