CPU Temeprature above threshold

Hi,

After Update to Version 6, i get the Massage "Temperature above threshold  running in modulated clock mode". Looks like the CPU is to hot. But i think it isnt. It works for 3 Days and all is fine.The CPU fan works fint too. I only cant login local. Webadmin is ok and fast.

Hardware: PIV 2.8 GHZ on a Asus Mainboard!

Is it a version 6 problem or realy a CPU temperature problem??

    I am also getting this error message after upgrading to Astaro v6.1 from v5.2.  That message is then followed with a message "running in modulated  mode."  It can't just be overheating.  The CPU is a 3.0GHz P4 on an Intel motherboard with plenty of fans all runnung at full speed and in a cooled computer room.  We were not getting this error with Astaro v5.

    Some sites (Tom's Hardware IIRC), had an article that recent P4 CPUs with stock cooling are unable to run under heavy load without throttling the CPU.

    This _may_ be related to that.

    On Fedora, you can get the CPU temp from the motherboard via:
    cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM/temperature
    However, I don't see that in ASL 6.0; I don't know about 6.1 though.

    What heavy load?  The Astaro CPU load reports show less than 10% load most of the time with a few spikes just above 20%.  We are also not using the stock cooling but a better fan on the CPU with an opening in the case next to it and two case fans right behind the CPU in addition to the power supply fan.  All fans are running at full speed.  The server is located in a cooled computer room.

    Does the CPU heatsink feel hot?

    Reboot, go into BIOS, and check CPU temp.

    It's possible the chipset or driver is reading incorrectly.

    I have not had a chance to take down the firewall to check the bios, but the heatsink does not feel hot at all, even while receiving the temperature error message on the screen..

    Probably a bug in the hardware sensor or the kernel driver then.

    Indeed there is a bug in the kernel.

    My webserver is running 2.6.14-1.1637_FC4 on an ABIT NF7-S, during the intial install, I was getting kernel panic related to high temperature. All I did to rectify this was increase the threshold/disable high temperature shutdown in the bios. The obvious down side of this being that if there is a true thermal condition then it will be disregarded by the OS and potenitally the mainboard. Pending a further kernel release I would use this as a workaround if your Bios setup allows you to change these values.
