5.204 halting all the time

I'm running 5.204 on a 500Mhz machine with 640 Mb memory.
It seems there is enough memory to run without swapping, as no swap-space is used (in the past I had less memory and then swap was used)

ASL stops responding as soon one (out of 2) clients is stressing ASL
- by doing a ftp-download at 100k+ speed. After a fraction of a second ASL halts
- by refershing the headers of news-groups
- a lot of concurrent sessions (gaming, bittorrent)
- .....

I already disabled "Accounting" as suggested somewhere in this forum.

What might be going on ? I have the impression that older versions (I started with 5.100) didn't have this behaveour

What brand of NICs are you using?

Hi,

The NIC's are :

eth0 3Com 3c900 Combo [Boomerang]
eth1 Dell 3C905B Fast Etherlink XL 10/100

Eth1 being the onboard one of this Del GX1

Is it a problem to have two different NIC's (although the same 3c59x drivers are used) ?
Would it be a solution to put in a secong 3c900 and disable the 3c905 ?

How should I proceed to replace the Nic and ASL recognizing/configuring it as Eth1 ?
