Enabling external NIC kills communications

If there is a quick howto on cable modem connections that might save some time.

I have the following setup...

cable modem
        |
router (192.168.0.1)
        |
Astaro box external (192.168.0.201)
        |
   Switch (ALSO CONNECTED TO ROUTER)
       |
Other LAN computers, including WebAdmin box internal NIC(192.168.0.200)

My problem is that if the external NIC is active, I can no longer communicate with the Astaro box.  I have tried diconnecting the switch from the router and the same thing happens.

Anyone have any ideas?

    Don't ever connect both interfaces on your Astaro box to the same device. Astaro will think spoofing packets is taking place and shut one or both interfaces. Always connect your internet connection directly to the outside interface of the Astaro and the inside to a swicth or other device. Keep those Astaro interfaces physically seperated.

    Yes, best way to do it is to keep the interfaces separate and use separate subnets for each interface. There really shouldn't be a need to have a hub/switch on the external side, since there would not normally be anything there beyond the modem or router. Any hosts that might go there should probably be on the DMZ interface instead.
