Enabling external NIC kills communications

If there is a quick howto on cable modem connections that might save some time.

I have the following setup...

cable modem
        |
router (192.168.0.1)
        |
Astaro box external (192.168.0.201)
        |
   Switch (ALSO CONNECTED TO ROUTER)
       |
Other LAN computers, including WebAdmin box internal NIC(192.168.0.200)

My problem is that if the external NIC is active, I can no longer communicate with the Astaro box.  I have tried diconnecting the switch from the router and the same thing happens.

Anyone have any ideas?

I found out through a phone call to my cable company that you have to cycle power on the cable modem and then plug in the router to get an IP through DHCP.

So, I'm connected to the internet, I just have one question (famous last words).

My internet connection is fine and I can naviagate to ALMOST ANYWHERE.... BUT...

I'm having trouble logging in to websites that require a login so I'm assuming some kind of traffic is blocked. I tried logging into AOL using their client software and it hangs up then times out. When I access it through a browser, it loads the homepage just fine but hangs when I try to log in for mail.

Also, I had a problem trying to log into the Astaro page.

I found some information about opening ports 1590 through 1594, also port 443 (already open) and enabling some ping setting with a few attached parameters that I don't see as options in WebAdmin.

Can anyone suggest a solution?
