Compaq Proliant DL380

The FAN noise is my problem...

how can i reduce the fan noise of the dl380 (think it is G1 or G2) ? 
on windows 2003 server there is software, that controls the fan speed...

what possibilities do i have ?

    Hi Soli,

    try looking at the bios settings, maybe Update the Bios if you see nothing.
    On DL320 machines there is some option like "Fan Speed".
    In Windows the HP management Agents trottle down the Fans automatically, on Asl there are no management Agents for HP.

    i already read there is a bios on the 320, but i dont know if the 380 has one. if there is so, who do i get inside at what point, what key etc ...

    dont want to have a airplane... : )

    Hi soli,

    maybe that helps, F9 to enter the RBSU, i dont know if DL380 got Fan-Speed options in the RBSU...but maybe....
    I can check that on Monday with our DL380 G3 Server maybe.

    Thats what i found out on hp.com:

    "Press the F9 key when prompted during the boot process to change the server settings, such as the settings for language and operating system, using RBSU. The system is set up by default for the English language and a Microsoft Windows 2000 installation.
    For more information on the automatic configuration, refer to the HP ROM-Based Setup Utility User Guide located on the Documentation CD."

    Hi Soli,

    i checked the RBSU on one DL380/G3 now because i had to reboot it, but i havent saw options for the Fan-Speed there.
    After that i looked if i can find the Docu-CD...found it and i read nothing about such an option.  [:(]

    Maybe call HP-Support and tell them that you got a broken Airplane there.  [:)]))

    Compaq has a "Health" software package available for the Proliant series of servers, which when installed, trottles back the fan speed and make the machines much quieter. The "Health" software is available for most operating systems that people run on Proliant hardware, but even if you can get hold of a Linux version of it, it might be tricky, if not impossible, to get it to run on Astaro on your own.

    I would suggest that you talk to HP/Compaq support, and see if they have a solution for you.
