Problems Setting up Astaro v5 at home

I'd appreciate any help. I'm trying to migrate my home networ from Smoothwall GPL to Astaro. I have a Cable Broadband connection and a 100Mbps network. I've installed Astaro to a PIII 700MHz machine with 768Mb of RAM, and three NICs: 1 3Com, 1Accton and 1SMC. I configured the appliance through the WebAdmin as per the manual, setting the 3com card as my internal, and the Accton as my external (the smc will be a DMZ at some point but is now disabled). I am able to see the appliance through the private network. The external interface is configured for dhcp to get ip info from the modem. It is getting an IP, but I am unable to even browse the web. When trying to get Up2Date updates, the updates fail, saying there is an error with the authentication. Masquerading was configured. No services besides the default ones are active, and I don't have any packet filtering rules set up. 

If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it.

    Firstly, you said that you external ethernet is getting its ip info from the cable modem. Is it getting all of it? (IP, Gateway ect.)

    Secondly, are you going to use any of the Proxies? If not then create a packet filter rule that states:

    source : internal
    destination : any
    service : any

    Make sure you create a second packet filter rule that would go above the previous rule that drops broadcasts.

    Third, how did you setup the masquerade rule? 

    Rule type: Masquerading
    Network: Internal
    Interface: External

    And lastly is you client configured with the correct ip info?

    IP address on same subnet as internal nic card of astaro
    Gateway configured as ip of internal nic card of astaro
    DNS configured with isp DNS (if not using DNS Proxy)

    Thats all that I can think of. Hope this helps.
