[INFO-150] Root partition mounted at / is filling

You need to go to the console to find the problematic file(s). Please try something like  Code:

---

du -hcxk / | sort -n 

---

 , which lists the biggest files and directories of the root partition. Watch out for something that looks out of the ordinary and report back here.

Somewhat catastrophic problems with the box has forced me to wipe clean and reinstall.

All https data is being blocked for some unknown reason.

Configuration is "standard"...  something happened last night, but it was not anything that included interaction with me.

It would have been more helpful  if you had executed the above code example to find the reason for the problem. Without more information we can't do anything.

I agree.
I called support and found that home users do not have the luxury of their services.

I couldn't wait for responses on this board so I took rather drastic measures to fix the problems. 

I seem to be having an identical problem and this isn't the first time it has happened (last time was 43 days ago - I've not had ro reboot since then).

Here's what's going on:
I am using 5.100 and trying to update.  Being as far behind as I am, I obviously can't allow an auto download or I won't have any room left but it seems a manual upload won't work either. The upload fails/times out (even with the browser timeout cranked up to 100 minutes).  Now, after trying to upload the 5.101 up2date file, I have started getting hourly reports about the drive space running out, which it's obvously not.  At the moment I believe the probelm to be the standard partition settings (which I don't know how or if I can change)... or the HD size (10g).  Memory is 384mb and CPU is 450mhz, so I don't see that as being an issue.

As you can see above, I only have about 35mb to work with and the 5.101 up2date file is 40.5mb.

I checked for large files as suggested above but don't see anything that looks out of the ordinary.  Everything large (over 10mb) falls under /lib/modules/... and /usr/lib/perl5... or is a directory size including its sub-paths.

When I had this problem before a command line reboot, twice, resolved the problem but I didn't do the up2date at the time.  Now that I want to, I run into the same problem again.

As luck would have it, I have just obtained another machine with the same size HD, but a faster CPU (600mhz) and a little more meory (512mb) so tomorrow I'm going to swap the NIC cards, attempt installing there after I get the latest ISO downloaded and see if it will restore from the backup file.  worst case, I'll still have the other machine to slap back in.
