/var/log filling up up after 5.103 update?

If your free disk space on the /var/log partition falls below 25%, you get a notification from the selfmonitoring daemon. You can configure the log file maintenance using WebAdmin: Local Logs->Settings. You can for example set it to delete the oldest logfiles beginning with 70% usage, always keeping a 30% reserve for the actual day.

I'd bet this is completely unrelated to the up2date; you just reached 75% at about that time.

That's correct. I can see that that the log is at 76% atm. But the first threshold is at 85%.

Even if the first threshold is at 85% i should still get warnings at 75% ?

I'll try to tweak this setting to lower the size of the logfiles.

The selfmonitor (which monitors many aspects of the ASL system) constantly checks for the usage of the partitions and is set to a limit of 75%. This limit is static, exceeding it generates a notification.

The monitoring which you can configure via WebAdmin->Local Logs is only checked once a day, after log file rotation. In exchange, it is user configurable and can react on the situation (with the automated log file deletion it is even able to remedy the situation, enabling the system to run stable even if unmonitored for years). The default value for this setting, though, is set to notify when usage exceeds 85%.

Think of it as "multiple security layers" :-)

I lowered the threshold to 70% and after the log rotation the logs  have now been truncated and the notification message is gone!
