[ERR 009] Failed to start Virus Scanner.

I have the same problem. It started this morning on ASL 4 only.  Is it related to the problem we had last week?

Kaspersky's virus database update servers have been having a few problems. This is what they had to say:

We apologize to customers and partners for the problems caused by our download servers over the past few days.

A recent virus outbreak and an exceptionally large antivirus database update created an unprecedented load on our servers. This meant the servers were inaccessible for long periods.

We have now completely restructured our update procedure. This means that the cumulative update released on 28.01.05, which contributed to the server problems,was the last update of such a large size.

We are also reviewing our download server system to ensure that our servers will function effectively at times of peak demand.

Maybe this caused the partition to run out of space. Just a thought.

I just received the same error [ERR 009] again by mail and started right after it the Up2Date service manually. I got this:

000 UPDATE_SERVER: 212.126.210.201
001 Starting update for avp_pattern.
002 Creating the md5sum hash for avp_pattern.
003 Connecting to 212.126.210.201 ......Connected!
007 No new avp virus pattern available.
008 Pattern install started.
009 No Pattern Update for avp virus pattern necessary!

So, two different messages????

That's not error. That a normal message. You have all the newest patterns. There are no newer patterns on the server.

Of course, this is not an error. But, I’m still receiving the [ERR09] message by mail.
 According to the logs, ASL scans every incoming mail.

 I did what you recommended and deleted all content in:
/etc/up2date/lib1/
/etc/up2date/lib2/
/usr/lib/kavdaemon/Bases/

and run the Up2Date manually. I received the current virus definitions, but every hour I’m getting this error [ERR09] by mail again and again.

astaro v4.025 uptodate

this is related to a broken file in /usr/lib/kavdaemon.
Please check the md5sums of the files by using the command
cd /usr/lib/kavdaemon/
ls -atS |grep -v "^\.\{1,2\}$" |grep -v Bases |xargs md5sum

i ask the astaro support team (support@astaro.com) and they sent me a zipfile containig a possible replacements for corrupted files then i compare & replace the corrupted one (exiscan.atom.bin for me) with scp ..... 

just ask astaro to send you the file (usr-lib-kavdaemon.zip)  385Ko .

Thanks! In my case the following file was not working:

exiscan.atom.bin

Fixed! [:)]

Just delete the broken files and then type in:
/sbin/init.d/av-scanner restart

That should also do the trick. The virusscanner then automatically rebuilds the missing files.
