Hyperthreading: To enable or not to enable?

Hello there!

Here I have Astaro 5.1 running on a Dell PowerEdge 1750 with 1 XEON 2.8, HyperThreading disabled. Now my question is how it will affect performance if i enable HyperThreading. I know that I possibly have to install the SMP-Kernel, but is it worth the work? Or does it make no sense enabling HT? We have a 250-User-License of Astaro with eMail-Virus-Protection enabled. HTTP-Proxy does run on a separate Linux machine.

This is a great question and I'm looking forward to someone who's actually tried it both ways.

In the meantime, here's an article which suggests it will be beneficial; but I know if software is not designed in an atomistic way (lots of possibilities for deadlocks), hyperthreading can actually degrade performance...

I am running ASL 5.1 with Hyperthreading enabled... I think there is no degradation in performance as far as I have noticed...
