Very high system load...

I have been using ASL for almost 3 years now, and I love it. It works very good for me. I use it at home (free 10-user Office licence) for, well, 8-10 computers... I used ASL V.3 for quite some time on an old P166 computer, which ran very smoothly.

But now I installed ASL V.5.100 on another machine, which is a P-II 333, 128MB RAM, 6.5GB disk, and now I am running into some issues:
-The system load is VERY high: constant 7.5! CPU is at 100% usage constantly when reading top. Different processes however:  confd, mdw_deamon, get_conf
-I get an e-mail every hour saying that "alicd" is not running, restarting. I have read the other posts about this issue, but the tips didn't work for me (resetting IP-counter, installing V5.100)

Can anyone help me? Or is my system just too slow to run ASL V.5 (hope not)

I can just barely run v5 with a p-2 350 and 256 megs of ram.  part of your problem is you relaly need at least 256 megs of ram for v5.  Also your cpu is also slower than mine.  The 333 also run a 66 mhz fsb instead of the 100 mhz fsb my 350 has.  overall you need some faster hardware for asl5.

Ok. Guess I'll go out and shop for some faster hardware... It's a hard life

Well I run my home setup on this hardware:
Pentium Pro 200
96mb ram
6 gig harddrive

Yes the web interface can be a bit sluggish but for the load it handles it works fine. I use (2) 3com 905b NIC on a cable modem connection and it averages .2 cpu.

I soon will have a better machine to run this on but this old IBM just won't die.

It all depends on the features you run. I run IDS and DNS proxy and have multiple web servers NATed behind this.
