Can't install v5.100

I am trying to install Astaro v5.100 on a new PC. If I use the default or classic kernels, the computer reboots spontaneously while the install starts from the CD.

If I use the SMP kernel (even with the noapic acpi=off options) , then the install starts, but then when it reaches the point of "Formatting Storage Partition" it dies with the error:

CPU 0: Machine Check Exception 0000000000000004
CPU 1: Machine Check Exception 0000000000000004

The PC has the following hardware:
CPU: Intel P4 3Ghz with Hyperthreading
Motherboard: Intel D848PMB
Memory: 1Gb Kingston HyperX
Video: Nvida Riva TNT2 16MB AGP
onboard Intel NIC
2 x 3com 3C509B NICs
Seagate 40Gb ATA-100 hard drive

Memory tests OK. I also tried turning off hyperthreading and the onboard LAN, but neither helped. When trying to install the default or classic kernels, the system will either reboot suddenly at the beginning of the install process or panic with the message "interrupt handler - not synching"

I would also look to the Video Card. Try a more Generic one.

I tried a generic PCI VGA card, and it did not help.
I think it has to do with the IRQ sharing on the board.
Intel support said that APIC and IRQ sharing cannot be disabled on this board.

I just noticed that the D848PMB board is listed on the v5 hardware compatibility list as tested.

That's a drag, I guess lastly I would check the Linux boards or even try to load RedHat Fedora that you can get free to see if the same issues arise then since realy Asatro is just Linux with there own config. Good luck and and I hope you find an answer.

when you boot into the cd..use the argument -noapic
that wil disable the kernel's APIC routines.

Sorry to leave this hanging for so long, but in clonclusion it turned out to be a bad processor. Of course, Intel officially does not think it is the processor, but their processor support staff decided to be nice and issue a warranty replacement anyway since the only other option was to deal with their desktop motherboard division which is a pain. The system has been running without hardware trouble for about three weeks now with the new CPU.
