High Availability Hardware

Hi!

The manual says you need the same hardware twice to build a HA-System. Do we really need the same CPU and amount of memory?
Do the NICs also really have to be the same? The configuration refers to them as eth0 and eth1, when ASL is installed from the ISO it should matter any more, should it?

    I would think that as long as ASL will install on both computers and recognize the devices (NICs) properly, that the exact same hardware would not be an absolute requirement.

    However, when I installed our unlimited/HA setup here I used a couple of Dell 1750's (exact same config on both) just to be on the safe side.

    If you have hardware laying around that you are considering testing this with I'd highly recommend you give it a shot.  Chances are that it'll work just fine.  Call your astaro rep if you need an evaluation Key for testing the HA stuff.  

    If you are buying new hardware (like I did), I would think you might as well buy two of the same.

    I would do the same, but we are planning on adding HA to our system. Unfortunately, the hardware used in the original box is no longer available (P4 1,6) and buying two new PCs is no option.
    I'll give it a try.
