Prob: ASL 5 IBM X336 onboard Gigabit Broadcom NIC

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to install Astaro V5 (tried 5.0.27 and 5.1 beta) on an IBM x-series 336.

the machine has 6 ethernet interfaces two PCI-X Intel Pro/1000 DB Server adpater with two ports each and two onboard Broadcom Gigabit Nics (IBM OEM based on the BCM 5721 chipset)

My problem is that both onboard ports are not detected by the installer although the card should run with the kernel module bcm5700.o (at least the driver cd contains the source for this module.., HCL does not list the 5721 Chipset)

Has anyone an idea how to get the chips to work?

simply manually insmoding bcm5700.o fails...

any help would be greatly appreciated

The Intel cards are running fine ;-)

    Dear Bern Woelfel,

    I have seen that too. Without the additional interfaces onboard units were detected as supposed to. For some reason (it was a x305) the BIOS had problems to initialise the PCI bus, after a BIOS update the problem dissappeared.

    Thanks for your quick answer cyclops,

    I saw a post regarding this topic (I don't quite remember but I think it was posted by you...)

    Already tried that, flashed the bios to the latest revision and removed the Intel cards from the server, also flashed the firmware code of the Onboard Broadcom adapter (just to make sure...)

    still no luck with that...
