V5 Installation Problem

I have tried to install asl-5.027-041110-3 and asl-5.024-041005-1 and when it gets to the point to install the packages it always fails.

I burned the iso's with Nero and verified both to be good burns. Anyone have any suggestions?

Reran the installation process and while watching the installation log (ALT+F3) after "Installing boost-1.31.0-1i586.rpm" I get the message "unpacking of archive failed: cpio: bad magic
an error occured"

AMD Athlon 1GHz
256MB RAM
30GB WD HDD

I was able to get ahold on a P3 966MHz and tried the installation again. Worked like a charm. It appears that Astaro will not work on an AMD system.

P3 966MHz
256MB RAM
20GB WD HDD
3 Realtek NICs

    Astaro runs rock stable on AMD CPUs. The problem may be your CD-Rom drive. Could you try to build in the other one (from the running machine)?

    I second cyclops' view on this. I have been up against problems with installing software, both ASL and MS Windows, that seemed at first to be a problem with the CD, but turned out to be caused by faulty CDROM drives that went on the blink when they heated up. With different CDROM drives in the machines, the installs worked fine.

    I actually set this machine up as a test machine to see wether or not would want to run this software as our main firewall, but due to the cost of the software, we have decided to stay with our original plan and get a tried and trusted Cisco PIX.

    Also too, we don't really like the fact of having "all our eggs in one basket" type of deal. Yes, it's cheaper, but if one fails, you lose all.

    don't compare apple with eggs...PIX is a better Packetfilter and VPN device, NO MORE !!!!!
    And what happens to your Cisco PIX when it breaks without a Smartnet Contract ...what about SOftware Updates...etc??
    ASL you can exchange when fails with nearly ANY Hardware that is tested....
    Maybe your "Plan" isnt soo smart. [:)]

    and yes...i installed several other Firewall Products, but since i seen  and used ASL.. i try to get rid of the other installations when possible.

    Hi Simon,

    if i remember right (blame me, if not) the PIX has no Proxys etc.
    So maybe it's cheaper, but it also has less features.
    Seat is also cheaper than Porsche  

    On the other side it must have something to do with the name. 
    "Cisco" must be good, because it's well known name and very long on the market.
    So it must be the right solution  [;)]
    I had this problem once, when a customer told me something like that: "This is a Cisco PIX, so i trust it! And what is that Astaro thing ?!"
    Today he has an Astaro appliance in the headquarter and in his branch offices (and is very satisfied)

    When did Cisco become cheap?
    With Cisco, you buy the name, and pay dearly for it.
